05/29 - Prominent Colonel

What is blog worthy?

Because we saw three colonels,

I think that's worthy.

On Thursday, walking to the station, just outside the Ikebukuro West Exit, where there is a bit of a plaza next to the train stations and then a few roads that intersect and have many crossing, I noticed that there is a very prominent Colonel Sanders on a building that is home to a KFC. There are a lot of KFCs here in Japan, many of which have a Colonel Sanders plastic statue out front. This was just a picture, but it really stands out in the vista of the area. I pointed it out to Aykut, just moments before I noticed a Japanese man who looked a lot like Colonel Sanders. He had the glasses and the beard. I pointed him out to Aykut. Then we walked into the station and I told him about my idea for yesterday's post. How it would be all about him. He told me that I should write whatever I want about him, not to be too nice. He said "if I need to get got, then I need to get got". He didn't want me to sugarcoat it. I thought it was hilarious because I planned on being entirely complimentary, but I assured him I would "chat shit" about him if necessary. At one point Aykut interrupted our discussion and pointed out a second Japanese man who looked like Colonel Sanders, only a little bit older. A touch more grey in his hair. The same little goatee beard. Wow, two colonels. We continued chatting and had almost reached our platform when Aykut said "Did you see that? Are you seeing this?" excitedly. A third man, this time with longer, greyer hair, but again the goatee. It was like three progressively older versions of Japanese Colonel Sanders.

We got on the train and after we settled Aykut turned to me and said "What goes on the blog? What does it have to be?" I replied that anything interesting was fine. That I write about different things everyday, as long as they're worthy. "What's blog worthy?" was his response. "Because, we just saw three colonels, at different stages in life. Three Japanese Colonels. I think that's worthy." I agreed, totally worthy.
