Into the classroom,
let’s write some new stories,
as
the floor is paper
Today was
my first day teaching at Rikkyo University. I had a great time meeting all my
students and teaching them some new ways to introduce themselves. I’m teaching
the Basic Level students for six classes a day. I also had two more free
speaking style blocks for students to join today.
Today’s
haiku features a take on “kireji” or a word that cuts apart the poem, in the
use of “as”. In Japanese haiku this kind of technique is common at the end of
one lines/verses. It can cut thought, create a dividing line to parallel both
sides of the poem, or just provide a solid ending to a line or poem. My
floor is not actually paper in the classroom just for the record. I haven’t
even seen any paper doors or dividers really here in Japan yet, other than some
traditional ones on display but not in actual use.

Rikkyo campus.
